CSR Spotlight: Community FoodBank of New Jersey

Posted on February 26, 2021

At the start of February, over 20 volunteers, including members of Roux and our clients, worked a two-hour shift at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey as part of the 7th Annual Bayway/Bayonne Strong Work Safely for Others Program. Keeping COVID precautions in mind, the workers at the food bank split into two groups—half were assigned the task of packing crisis boxes that were delivered to senior citizens in need, and the other half sorted donations, including hundreds vegetable, soup, and cereal packages.

In accordance with site health and safety best practices, our field personnel and clients were given tickets for each safe action performed in November and December, and each ticket was worth one pound of food. Between the Bayway and Bayonne job sites, over 1,300 pounds of food were donated thanks to our personnel’s careful safety precautions! Roux agreed to match all food donations brought in by our staff along with an additional $500 donation.

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) is a member of Feeding America, an organization we began supporting last year which has responded to the hunger crisis in America by providing food to people in need through a nationwide network of food banks. CFBNJ’s locations serve area programs and community partners wherein 760,000 food insecure neighbors in need reside. The organization packages food orders for local soup kitchens and food pantries, purchases and collects food for distribution, helps people in need through SNAP application assistance, reaches communities with limited resources with mobile pantries, and encourages others to get involved.
