Roux’s Real Estate Team in New York served as the environmental consultant for two award-winning brownfield redevelopment projects in New York City. Both projects received a Big Apple Brownfield Award earlier this summer.

The Riverie
Winner: 2026 Big Apple Brownfield Award for Sustainable Building Design and Open Space
Working closely with the project team and regulators, Roux assisted Lendlease in transforming a former brownfield into a redevelopment-ready property that now supports a new mixed-use residential community on Brooklyn’s waterfront. Enrolled in the New York State Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP), the 2.4-acre site required comprehensive remediation to prepare for its future. The Riverie’s all-electric design and geothermal heating and cooling system further demonstrate how brownfield redevelopment can advance both environmental restoration and long-term sustainability standards.
Inwood Women’s Residence
Winner: 2026 Big Apple Brownfield Award for Community Advocacy, Outreach, and Engagement
Roux is proud to have supported the Bowery Residents’ Committee’s (BRC) Inwood Women’s Residence, a 32,722 gross square-foot, four-story transitional residential building in the Inwood section of Manhattan that provides 116 beds for adult women experiencing homelessness. The Residence demonstrates how brownfield redevelopment can deliver environmental cleanup, essential social infrastructure, and restorative community engagement within a single project. The completed shelter expands BRC’s capacity to serve adult women experiencing homelessness while honoring the site’s layered history through a Sacred Space designed for remembrance, education, and reflection.
