Sin Senh: From Harpur to Company President
Sin Senh, President and CEO of Roux, was profiled by BingUNews, the official news source of Binghamton University. At Binghamton, he earned a BA in Environmental Studies and BS in Geology in 1997, followed by his MA in Hydrogeology in 2005.
As a Binghamton master’s student, Sin was giving a talk when he had a life-changing encounter. He connected with a fellow alumnus who worked at Roux, and according to Sin, “the rest was history.”
“I’ve been here for my entire career after Binghamton,” Sin shared from his Islandia, New York headquarters office.
Since the start of his Roux career over 25 years ago, Sin has worked on hundreds of sites within the New York City metropolitan area. These days, he’s more likely to find himself in a courtroom as an expert witness on cases related to the fate and transport of pollutants in the environment, the allocation of investigation and remediation costs across multiple parties, and soil and groundwater contamination.
“We’re technical people; if we’re not doing something that’s interesting and challenging, we get bored. Roux has provided that for me from day one,” he noted.
Sin continues to keep Binghamton in his busy schedule, honoring the place where his legacy took root, making annual recruiting visits since graduating. In 2016, he founded the Roux Scholarship in Geology, which supports one master’s student in the program each year. As a result, more than 20 geology and environmental science alumni have worked for Roux.
“Sin is one of a kind,” stated Distinguished Professor of Earth Sciences, Tim Lowenstein. “He understands the science side and the business side of the environmental consulting field. Most of all, Sin is a people person, who constantly thinks about the well-being of those around him.”
Before becoming Roux’s CEO, Sin returned to campus each year with a fellow Binghamton alum to give a technical talk on geology. He remains a regular visitor, and over the past five years, he has been a member of the Alumni Advisory Council of the Earth Sciences Department, offering vital input for the department’s future.
