Mark Wilson

Principal Scientist

Mr. Wilson is an Illinois licensed Asbestos Building Inspector with over thirty-four years in the environmental industry. His environmental work includes site investigations, remedial design and oversight, plan development, and closure reporting under the Illinois Site Remediation Program (SRP). His remediation experience includes in situ remediation of hazardous lead-contaminated soil, chemical oxidation of volatile organic compounds in soil via injection and soil mixing, excavation of hazardous metals-contaminated soils, and free-product recovery. Mr. Wilson has conducted environmental monitoring, site characterization, and remediation oversight for large-scale projects in compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Consent Decrees. His experience also includes laboratory project management, bioassays, aquatic life studies, phytoremediation, and landfill gas migration monitoring. Mr. Wilson’s areas of expertise include asbestos inspections and abatement oversight, environmental inspection and support for natural gas pipeline in-line-inspection (ILI) tool runs, hazardous and non-hazardous waste characterization, waste treatment and disposal management, microbial inspections and abatement oversight, Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) surveys, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and NORM decontamination oversight and verification, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) permitting, industrial discharge pre-treatment monitoring and reporting, groundwater recovery and remediations systems operation and maintenance, groundwater monitoring management, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit inspections and reporting.

  • Hazardous lead-contaminated soil remedial action plan development, in-situ remediation oversight, remedial action completion reporting, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) interaction and correspondence, resulting in a No Further Remediation (NFR) determination in coordination with planning for construction of a community college campus in downtown Aurora, IL.
  • Remedial design and oversight of in situ perchlorate remediation via chemical oxidation/soil mixing at a former dry cleaner site in Downers Grove, IL, resulting in an NFR determination in coordination with site redevelopment planning.
  • Site characterization, contaminant delineation, and in situ perchlorate remediation oversight using chemical oxidation via injection and soil mixing at a bulk chemical storage facility in Lemont, IL.
  • Natural gas pipeline ILI environmental inspection and support, including NORM surveys for worker protection and inspection tool decontamination; pipeline liquids capture, characterization, waste profiling, and disposal management; pipeline coating evaluations for asbestos and PCBs; coating abatement management; PCB-contaminated pipe testing; and disposal management at multiple sites within the pipeline corridors running through Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Arkansas.
  • Asbestos building inspections and abatement project management at multiple hospitals and healthcare facilities in Chicago and surrounding counties in coordination with demolition and renovation activities.
  • Site characterization, contaminant delineation, and oversight of remedial activities for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), PNAs, and heavy metals-contaminated soils at a former petroleum refinery in Lockport, IL. Work scope included free product removal, soil excavation, phytoremediation, groundwater monitoring, and waste treatment unit closure in compliance with RCRA.
