Roux Speaking at Special Institute on the Air Quality Regulation of the Oil & Gas Industry
Thursday, March 5–Friday, March 6 The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law is hosting the Special Institute on the Air Quality Regulation of the Oil & Gas Industry in Houston, Texas, providing timely updates and expert analysis on the legal, technical, and strategic implications of air quality developments. This conference will equip both legal practitioners and air quality specialists to respond effectively to challenges and opportunities in today’s air quality regulatory environment.
On Thursday, March 5, Roux Principals Tami McMullin, PhD and Katelyn Hall, PhD, MPH will present on “Air Toxics, Health Risk, and Regulatory Reality – Using Data to Navigate Public Health Concerns and Policy in Oil & Gas” from 1:45-2:45pm. As scrutiny increases on the industry’s impacts on air quality and public health, it is essential that policy decisions are grounded in transparent, scientifically sound data—not speculation or public perception. Drawing from real-world case studies, we will highlight examples of flawed study designs and misinterpretations that have led to misleading conclusions about health risks.
In contrast, Dr. McMullin and Dr. Hall will demonstrate how robust, targeted air quality and exposure data can clarify risk, guide regulatory decisions, and address community concerns objectively. They will examine how well-designed monitoring and exposure assessments connect source emissions to potential health outcomes, enabling more defensible, science-driven policies. The presentation will also cover key air toxics relevant to oil and gas operations. The goal is to equip EHS professionals and legal counsel with practical tools to critically assess health-based allegations and engage constructively in policy and regulatory discussions.
