CSR Update: Summer 2022

Posted on July 12, 2022

It’s been an especially busy summer for the Roux CSR team! From academic presentations to fun in the sun, check out the events that have supported charitable organizations across the nation below.

Excel Academy: Burlington, Massachusetts Office

Members of our Burlington, Massachusetts office presented to students at Excel Academy in East Boston as part of their Environmental Justice initiative. Excel Academy is a network of tuition-free charter public schools wherein students are admitted through a blind public lottery. Excel’s mission is to provide high-quality education to students in East Boston and Chelsea, communities that are predominantly low-income and Latinx and historically have faced significant social and educational barriers.

Our CSR team is happy to continue our partnership with Excel Academy, providing a combination of in-person and Zoom presentations on Engineering/Environmental topics. Our aim is to give kids tangible examples of interesting careers in science with the ultimate goal of diversifying the pipeline of scientists.

Clothes the Deal: Long Beach, California Office

On the West Coast, our Long Beach office held a fundraiser for Clothes The Deal (CTD), a non-profit whose mission is to build community partnerships to provide low-income men, women, at-risk youth, and U.S. Veterans with professional business attire.

The Long Beach fundraiser consisted of a professional clothing drive for donation to CTD, along with a monetary donation. We had two racks of professional clothing to donate and contributed enough funds to the organization to clothe approximately six people!

Ronald McDonald House: Oak Brook, Illinois

Our office in Oak Brook, Illinois put together meal kits for the Ronald McDonald House. The first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in 1974 after recognizing the need for parents to stay close to their hospitalized children. As they opened more House programs around the world, it became clear that caring for the family of a sick child was just as important as caring for the child.

That was the beginning of their unique role as a children’s charity, enabling, supporting, and facilitating family-centered care. The Ronald McDonald House programs, located near top children’s hospitals, allow parents who are far from home to stay close to their hospitalized child and benefit from the comforts of home without incurring hotel and food costs. The program provides more than 1.4 million overnight stays each year, helping families save nearly over $443 million in lodging and meal expenses.

Cornhole Tournament: Houston, Texas Office

Inspired by similar events from other offices, our Houston, Texas office’s CSR team prepared a cornhole tournament, establishing a list of seven charities for the winner to choose from. Several teams participated, bringing out Roux’s competitive spirit for a good cause.

Ultimately, the winning team’s love for animals swayed their decision toward donating to the Barc Animal Shelter. BARC’s mission is to provide a safe haven for abandoned animals and to find permanent loving homes for them, providing them with quality food, shelter, medical attention, and the love they deserve.
