Offshore Wind Terminal

Offshore Wind Development Company; New York

OBJECTIVES

Roux is supporting one of NYC’s first offshore wind staging and assembly ports, located in Staten Island, New York. A 32-acre, state-of-the-art facility is being designed for the staging, assembly, and pre-commissioning of wind turbine generators (WTGs) and other offshore wind (OSW) components. The WTGs and OSW components would be assembled prior to being transported and installed at future offshore wind farms that are anticipated to be built off the East Coast of the United States. Roux is the environmental and ecological lead for the project, working closely with strategic partners providing civil, structural, and marine engineering. Our team recently completed the baseline site evaluation which included aquatic and terrestrial ecological community mapping and assessment, submerged aquatic vegetation surveys, threatened and endangered species surveys, essential fish habitat assessment, joint permit application permitting support, sediment analysis and evaluation, and dredge material management support.

“If you think about where could such a facility exist, and you look at potential sites out there in the region, this is really the only one that makes sense in New York City, northern New Jersey, and New York state,” said Boone Davis, the president & CEO of Atlantic Offshore Terminals. According to Davis, his company considered 70 different sites in the region before choosing this project location.

This project is a great example of Roux taking over 40 years of industrial remediation and brownfields redevelopment expertise, and using it to transform an underutilized property into part of the new sustainable energy solutions.
