The Opioid Epidemic: America’s Health & Litigation Crisis
In 2017, fatalities from opioid abuse peaked at 63,600 deaths. For the first time in decades, the U.S. reported a decrease in life expectancy—directly related to opioid use. In 2018, we have begun to see the opioid health crisis morph into a rapid rise in opioid-related lawsuits as states, cities, and municipalities partner with plaintiff law firms to bring suits against pharmaceutical companies, distributors, pharmacies, and doctors. Roux’s ECA practice can help parties with exposure to opioid litigation take proactive measures to examine their relative risk and potential damages associated with opioid lawsuits.
