Remediation Takeover: Commercial Dry Cleaner

Former Commercial Dry Cleaning Company; Indiana

OBJECTIVES

This Site operated as a commercial dry cleaner from 1978 to 1993 with two dry cleaning machines. The Site enrolled in Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s (IDEM) Volunteer Remediation Program (VRP) in 2008, currently operating as a multi-suite pick-up/drop-off cleaner and warehouse/commercial multi-tenant lease space.

Roux's remedial approach includes:

• Full-scale groundwater treatment via in-situ chemical reduction (ISCR) via direct injection;
• Source Area Vacuum Excavation;
• Vapor intrusion (VI) slab barrier and vapor intrusion mitigation system (VIMS) O&M;
• ISCR amendment replenishment;
• On- and off-site paired VI sampling;
• On-site VIMS to manage VI;
• Six years post-remedy performance monitoring;
• Site Environmental Restrictive Covenant (ERC); and
• Remedial Completion Report (RCR)/closure pending 2025-2026.

The previous consultant proposed a $2.2 million cost to closure, while Roux’s total remediation cost to closure was $1.7 million.
