Bryan Mayback

Since 2002, Bryan Mayback has been involved in various aspects of the environmental field and has extensive experience with environmental due diligence, investigation, and remediation activities with focus on Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) and spill incident projects. Mr. Mayback has completed/managed thousands of Phase I environmental site assessments and hundreds of Phase II environmental investigations on sites with a wide variety of uses from farmland to industrial, located in Western New York (WNY) and throughout the US. Many of the WNY properties went on to become New York State BCP Sites.


Mr. Mayback has performed various field services such as remedial oversight, groundwater monitoring activities including well gauging, purging (bailers and low flow), and sampling. In addition to management of large-scale investigation projects, Mr. Mayback has also managed large-scale remediation projects that involved soil/fill excavation, tank pulls, groundwater injection activities, groundwater management, sensitive receptor surveys, hydrogeologic studies, impact delineation studies, and pilot testing relative to remedial alternatives. Mr. Mayback is experienced in project management, written reports, and final report reviews. He has also provided environmental consulting services for major petroleum companies. Currently, Mr. Mayback continues to manage environmental due diligence, BCP, and spill projects.

  • Environmental Due Diligence Projects. Managed thousands of Phase I environmental site assessments and hundreds of Phase II environmental investigations involving virtually every property type from vacant farmland to heavy industrial sites.
  • Remediation Projects. Manager for hundreds of remedial projects, most in regulatory programs, involving various remediation approaches including excavation, product recovery/vacuum extraction, injection activities, and construction of a temporary biotreatment facility (TBTF).
  • Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, NY. Manager during environmental due diligence activities completed as part of a property transaction (purchase), which led to remediation being required due to significant concentrations of 2,4-D (up to 1,600 ug/L) identified in on-site groundwater. In situ groundwater treatment injection activities resulted in a significant decrease in 2,4,-D to non-detect concentrations. The remedial goals were achieved, no additional investigation or remediation was warranted, and the property transaction moved forward (with bank financing).
  • Jefferson Avenue Apartments BCP Site. Manager involved with investigation, remediation, and redevelopment of a 1.5-acre site, which initially consisted of ten city lots that were later combined (after successful entry into the BCP) and redeveloped with two apartment buildings. The remedial action involved building demolition activities and removal of over 16,000 tons of impacted soil/fill from property line to property line. The Site was successfully remediated to a Track 1 cleanup level, allowing unrestricted use.
  • Silo City Phase I BCP Site. Manager during environmental due diligence activities (pre-BCP) and all BCP tasks involving a six-acre property that had a variety of historic uses, most notably a grain malting/milling facility and a rail yard. The redevelopment plans involved renovating existing industrial buildings located along the Buffalo River into an affordable housing complex with commercial and community spaces, and construction of a parking lot. Investigation activities supported successful entry of the Site into the BCP. Supplemental investigation activities completed under the BCP (i.e., Remedial Investigation), revealed the presence of soil/fill impacted by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metals, concrete impacted by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and groundwater impacted by volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Remedial activities involved excavation and disposal of over 10,000 tons of soil/fill, groundwater injection activities, and installation of a site-wide cover system. In addition, PCB-impacted concrete was removed from within the existing buildings. A mixed Track 4 Cleanup was achieved consisting of restricted-residential on the affordable housing part of the Site, and commercial in the newly constructed parking lot area.
