While Termites Are a Pest, Finding Chlordane Could Be Worse: Understanding the Implications and Potential Outcomes

Presented by Adam Love, Ph.D. & Richard Maxwell of Roux and Summer L. Nastich of Nastich Law
Wednesday, May 26th at 2-3pm EDT

Chlordane was used as a pesticide in the United States from 1948 to 1988. In 1988, because of potential health concerns, all approved uses of chlordane in the United States ended. In the 40 years of chlordane use, numerous residential, commercial, municipal, and military sites had chlordane applied to both landscapes and buildings. Since chlordane does not rapidly degrade, chlordane remains at many sites where it was routinely applied, and the potential indoor vapor hazard drives concerns about human exposure. At sites where remediation is required, the costs of cleanup can add up quickly.

It is uncommon for chlordane to be included in a site investigation. Nonetheless, when it is discovered, most environmental professionals have limited experience with dealing with chlordane. So, what are the ways that chlordane can be discovered? Is chlordane a pollutant? Is chlordane a Recognized Environmental Condition (REC)? When would you need to investigate for chlordane? What are some of the legal and technical complications of a chlordane site, as opposed to a more garden-variety vapor intrusion site? What options are there for mitigation of any potential risk?

Join this webinar at the link below to get a primer on both legal and technical considerations involved with investigation, cleanup, regulatory compliance, and potential insurance coverage. Chlordane case studies will be discussed and ample time for questions and answers will be incorporated.
