Friends of the High Line; New York
The High Line is a former elevated railroad structure reclaimed as a public space. Friends of the High Line—a community-based non-profit group formed in 1999 when the historic structure was under threat of demolition works—partnered with the City of New York to preserve and maintain the structure as an elevated public park. The project gained the City’s support in 2002. The High Line south of 30th Street was donated to the City by CSX Transportation, Inc. in 2005 and construction of the park began in 2006. The Park spans 23 city blocks in the West Chelsea section of Manhattan, New York. Roux provided environmental engineering services as a subcontractor to the landscape architect for the High Line Park planning and design phases.
Our services provided consisted of:
• Engineering and environmental site inspections;
• Exposure Assessment of various structures;
• Rail bed soil sampling;
• Preparation of health and safety plan;
• Preparation of soil handling and lead encapsulation specifications; and
• Evaluation of potential future exposure to impacted materials.
The work was completed on behalf of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYEDC), New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, and Friends of the High Line.
