Roux Associates offers a wide range of wetland delineation and permitting services. Roux Associates’ wetland specialists are certified delineators with extensive field experience in plant identification, hydric soil characteristics, surface hydrology, GIS mapping and categorizing wetland resource areas in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.  Delineations are conducted in accordance with a variety of state guidelines and federal procedures.

The purpose of a wetland delineation is to identify, define and map the limits of potential jurisdictional wetlands.  Literature searches and field reconnaissance are conducted in order to describe the historic and current status of flora and fauna in the project area.  Field reconnaissance consist primarily of observing existing habitat conditions in relation to the potential for listed species and/or critical habitats to occur, although attempts are made to observe the relevant habitats in seasons during which the listed species may be anticipated to be present/evident.  Potential wetland areas are delineated following the applicable state and/or federal delineation protocols.

The wetland boundary is determined based upon the presence of wetland field indicators and baseline information available, including historical aerial photos, topographic maps, soil survey maps, state wetland maps, and National Wetlands Inventory maps.  Hydric soil indicators, depth to water measurements, and profile descriptions are recorded on delineation data sheets.  Vegetative species are recorded at every soil boring location and classified using the USFWS categories as listed under Regional and National Indicator columns in the “National List of Plant Species that Occur in Wetlands”.  When observed, hydrologic wetland indicators are recorded on the delineation data sheets.  The wetland boundary line is then visibly flagged and/or staked in the field with numbered flags and surveyed with a handheld GPS receiver following completion of the delineation.

If wetlands are identified on a property, Roux Associates will prepare all submittal documents required by the applicable agencies for development adjacent to and within regulated wetland areas.  Disturbances within and surrounding the jurisdictional wetlands generally require regulatory approval through the completion and issuance a wetland permit by both state and federal regulatory agencies.
