Health & Safety

The health and Safety of all employees is of paramount concern to Roux Associates. We are honored to have received the Global Remediation Contractor Safety Performance Award from ExxonMobil.

The health and safety of all employees is of paramount concern to Roux Associates. It is a basic responsibility not only of management at all levels - from the chief executive officer to the first-line supervisor - but of each individual, regardless of position or job classification. Health and safety must be treated in the same professional manner as production, quality, marketing, cost control or any other business fundamental.

Roux Associates has maintained a comprehensive Health and Safety Program since its inception in 1981. Concern for the health and safety of our fellow employees is an important aspect of the corporate culture here at Roux Associates. This is in part due to the nature of our business but to a larger extent that we truly value each other as co-workers. Our management style empowers our people to work safely and to report and correct hazards promptly. We have an obligation to provide a healthful, safe working environment.

Roux Associates will comply fully with all applicable laws and government regulations regarding employee health and safety. In addition, we will continue - or initiate where necessary - positive and forceful actions to ensure adequate employee health and safety by supplementing minimum established standards. Such actions include:

  • Providing mechanical and physical safeguards to the maximum practicable extent.
  • Conducting systematic programs or health and safety audits to identify unsafe conditions and    practices and to monitor compliance with safety regulations.
  • Training all employees in appropriate health and safety regulations.
  • Identifying areas in which personal protective equipment is necessary and requiring its use.
  • Developing and enforcing healthful and safe work procedures.
  • Maintaining facilities, tools, and equipment in safe working order.
  • Investigating accidents to identify causes and prevent recurrence.

Roux Associates is fully committed to continuously improving employee safety and our safety statistics. In 1999 we adopted the Mobil EHSMS, and more recently incorporated the ExxonMobil OIMS and LPSŪ programs. In January 2006 Roux received a safety performance award from ExxonMobil at their Northeast Area Annual Safety Conference, only one of two such awards from ExxonMobil to their consultants. It recognized Roux Associates' strong safety performance and extensive implementation of LPSŪ tools.

In addition, we have hired full-time Corporate Health and Safety Officers. They audit all work sites, continue to increase our safety training, and they provide technical assistance to our office and field staffs as part of our continuous efforts to reduce accidents and injuries. In a continued effort to promote and communicate health and safety, every month our safety team issues a newsletter addressing health and safety concerns including accidents and near misses associated with our industry.

Roux Associates is committed to using subcontractors who also have excellent Health and Safety programs and track records. Subcontractors are required to submit a Health and Safety Pre-Qualification Form (PQF) as part of the selection process for project work.

Attitude is the key factor in accident prevention. The company encourages all employees to develop a positive and continuing concern for safety, both in the home, and in the work place. Each of us can make a significant contribution toward reducing the suffering and loss that results from carelessness and unsafe conditions.
