Chemical plant remediation project
Alabama
Roux Associates implemented pre-design activities, engineering design and construction management for a $2-million sediment remediation and capping project. Project included two miles of drainage ditch impacted with PCBs.
Pre-design activities were performed to delineate the depth of impacted sediments within the ditch, evaluate equipment access needs for construction and determine post-construction stormwater runoff flows and velocities. Roux Associates also evaluated various alternatives for management of water at the site.
Roux Associates prepared a detailed, comprehensive engineering design package including drawings, specifications and several project plans. Project plans consisted of a Construction Quality Assurance Plan, Best Management Practices Plan and Dust Control Plan. The engineering design included excavation of sediments within certain portions of the ditch for off-site disposal in a landfill and installation of a cap consisting of geocomposite and six inches of reinforced concrete.
Roux Associates provided construction oversight through successful completion of the project. A detailed completion report and operations and maintenance plan were submitted to the United States Environmental Protection Agency and were approved with minimal comments.
