Roux Associates completed a UST closure program for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at LaGuardia Airport. A total of 26 USTs, ranging in size from 1,000 to 15,000 gallon capacity, were addressed as part of the UST closure program. Products stored in the USTs consisted of gasoline, diesel fuel, and waste oil.

The UST closure program was completed in coordination with daily operations at LaGuardia Airport. The USTs were located throughout the facility, including locations adjacent to the main runway at the airport. Due to the locations of the USTs being airside, Roux Associates' field personnel and contractors received Air Operations Area (AOA) Security Training provided by the Port Authority.

The UST closure program consisted of the excavation and removal of USTs and/or the closure-in-place of the UST systems. The UST closure program was performed under a strict timetable in conjunction with two contractors and under the jurisdiction of the NYSDEC. Roux Associates completed multiple tasks throughout the project, consisting of oversight during UST closure activities, collection of post-excavation soil samples, installation of temporary monitoring wells and subsequent groundwater sampling, and the preparation and submission of 20 closure reports to the NYSDEC. In addition, Roux Associates supervised the installation and pressure testing of 11 USTs as part of the tank upgrade program.
