Roux Associates was performing oversight of a local environmental consultant hired by the gas station owner. As part of this task, we were reviewing site investigation plans and reports prior to submission to the TCEQ. During our review, we noted the apparent presence of contamination on the upgradient side of the gas station tank field and recommended that the upcoming contaminant delineation investigation include two upgradient wells to further evaluate the situation.

These upgradient wells confirmed the presence of an upgradient source of groundwater contamination from a nearby gas station. This discovery allowed a substantial subrogation demand to be made from the upgradient gas station, resulting in significant direct savings to our insurance carrier client. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, Roux’s discovery of an upgradient contaminant source prevented the implementation of a remedial technology by the local consultant that could have never cleaned up the site, because it only addressed half the problem.
