The federal regulations concerning underground storage tanks (USTs) include technical standards and corrective action requirements (40 CFR Part 280).  Many states have adopted UST programs that meet or exceed the federal requirements.  Roux Associates assists its clients with these programs, and provides support for the following services:

  • Design Construction, Installation and Notification
  • Release detection
  • Release reporting
  • Release response and corrective actions,
  • UST Closures

If an overview is required, Roux Associates can conduct on-site UST inspections to determine

  • Whether or not the state was properly notified of the operation of an UST system
  • Verification of corrosion protection (on both tanks and piping), which should be documented through testing, inspections, or other records
  • In place and operational spill and overfill prevention mechanisms
  • Appropriate release detection methods and equipment for both tanks and piping
  • Proper reporting of any suspected releases
  • Review of records of any repairs to tanks or piping
  • Review of secondary containment, when required
  • Documentation of financial responsibility

Finally, underground spills or leaks of petroleum products or industrial chemicals can be significant, and Roux Associates offers thorough solutions.  We investigate the nature of the spill or leak, the subsurface environment, and the risks associated with site specific conditions. Our services include:

  • Intensive field surface and subsurface investigation through test pits, soil boring, groundwater monitoring, aquifer testing, soil gas sampling, and geophysical techniques;
  • Characterization of site geology/hydrogeology and groundwater modeling to define the nature and the extent of the spill
  • Design of effective and economical remedial action programs to clean up or contain contaminants
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the remedial system over the life of the remedial program.
