Soil Vapor Extraction Pilot Testing and System Design
Cubatao, Brazil
Roux associates designed a large-scale soil vapor extraction (SVE) and treatment system for a major chemical manufacturing company at an active styrene manufacturing plant in Cubatao, Brazil. The project included a Focused Feasibility Study, and preliminary design drawings and specifications for a 750 scfm SVE system with thermal oxidation off-gas treatment.
As part of the final design process, the Roux Associates team traveled to Brazil to participate in the client's Hazardous Operations (HazOp) evaluation, which consisted of intense brainstorming sessions with client representatives specializing in facility operations and health and safety. Roux Associates also assisted the client during the construction phase by evaluating shop drawing submittals for Brazilian-manufactured system components to confirm their equivalence with the American-made equipment that has been specified. Roux Associates provided field oversight during final installation and startup of the system; conducted the pilot test activities; and trained the client's operating personnel on system operation and performance monitoring. Based on the success of the pilot test, the client expanded the SVE system across the site. Roux Associates provided technical support for the project as needed.
