High Line Park

Environmental Engineering Services; Manhattan, New York

The High Line is a former elevated railroad structure reclaimed as a public space. Friends of the High Line—a community-based non-profit group formed in 1999 when the historic structure was under threat of demolition works—partnered with the City of New York to preserve and maintain the structure as an elevated public park. The Park spans 23 city blocks in the West Chelsea section of Manhattan, New York. Roux provided environmental engineering design and planning services as a subcontractor to the landscape architect for the Friends of the High Line.

Our specific services consisted of:

  • Site inspections;
  • Exposure Assessment of structural railings and future access stairways;
  • Rail bed soil sampling;
  • Health and safety planning; and
  • Preparation of soil handling and railing restoration specifications.
