Former Metals Manufacturing Facility

Staten Island, New York

Roux Associates completed a multi-phase investigation and demolition project at a 50-acre former metals manufacturing site in Staten Island, New York for a major telecommunications company. Services provided by Roux Associates include remedial design of dredging and capping and strategic planning in support of a large-scale redevelopment program for the site being completed under the New York State Voluntary Cleanup Program..

Roux Associates served as the general contractor responsible for demolition of 11 site buildings, a water tower and a 220-foot incinerator smoke stack. For this project, we assembled and coordinated the efforts of a team of specialists in building demolition/decontamination, air monitoring, health and safety and waste management, including:

  • a demolition contractor
  • an asbestos abatement and lead paint removal contractor
  • an independent third-party air monitoring contractor
  • a waste disposal contractor

Roux Associates was responsible for coordinating, scheduling all subcontractors and providing oversight of all field tasks, providing daily progress updates to the client and monitoring and documenting the details required by the site-specific health and safety plan.

The demolition/decontamination project involved extensive asbestos abatement, lead abatement, transformer removal and disposal, UST removal, and removal of oil and water from various pits within the buildings. Roux Associates documented all the necessary waste characterization and disposal activities during project implementation and prepared a comprehensive demolition completion report.
