Specialty Chemical Manufacturing Facility

As part of an overall facility investigation and remediation, Roux Associates managed the decommissioning, decontamination, demolition, and remedial activities at a 280-acre former specialty chemical manufacturing facility. The project included specification preparation, evaluation, construction oversight, and report preparation of the demolition of the former facility.
Facility features included over 200 ASTs, process vessels and reactors, 12 industrial buildings including a seven-story tower and several miles of piping. As part of the demolition project, classification and disposal of RCRA hazardous and non-hazardous wastes were completed; wastes included product samples, manufacturing artifacts, paints, water treatment chemicals and unknown materials (lab packs).
Other major activities included the preparation, evaluation, and project management of investigative/remedial activities, including excavation and ex situ bioremediation of impacted soils, groundwater capture and recovery systems, excavation and capping of landfill and impacted soils, installation and evaluation of air stripper pilot system, as well as the decommissioning and demolition of the wastewater treatment plant, four lined and unlined sludge lagoons and the stormwater management system.
Additional responsibilities included overall site management, scheduling of corrective actions and investigations, budgetary control of this $20 million project and the operation and regulatory compliance of 150,000 gpd wastewater treatment plant discharging to ecologically sensitive surface water body.
