Food Processing and Distribution Company

Multiple Locations

Roux Associates was retained by a food company to provide environmental compliance and engineering services for six of its locations in the United States, namely New Jersey, Maryland, Maine, Vermont, Louisiana and Wisconsin. The company engages in the manufacturing, selling, and distribution of a diversified portfolio of high-quality, shelf-stable foods across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

The Roux audit team conducted a detailed records and file review at the facilities and interviewed on-site personnel to determine compliance with applicable regulations. The regulatory programs covered by the audit included: hazardous waste regulations, wastewater and storm water regulations, Clean Air act, Oil Pollution Act, underground and aboveground storage tanks, and Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know. Also, Roux Associates negotiated with the local publicly owned treatment works (POTW) in Maryland the terms of a new revised Significant Indirect User (SIU) permit that one of the facilities required. As a part of the negotiations process, Roux Associates prepared a mass balance analysis for the wastewater streams and presented a conceptual plan of the pretreatment unit that the POTW was requesting. In addition, Roux Associates negotiated an the terms and conditions of an individual storm water permit with Maryland Department of the Environment.

As a follow-up to these audits, Roux Associates established a tracking system to assist the facilities in checking and monitoring important compliance milestones. The milestones included due dates for completing environmental reports such as Tier II, Form R, annual air emissions and biennial hazardous waste report.
