Chemical Manufacturing Facility

Alabama

Roux Associates is designing and implementing Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Interim Corrective Measures and Interim Remedial Measures associated with a 70- acre chemical manufacturing facility located in Alabama. The site is under the jurisdiction of the USEPA Region IV and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) and regulated under the Alabama Hazardous Waste Management and Minimization Act. Interim remedial measures (IRMs) have been completed to eliminate further releases and human exposure.

Roux Associates has been involved in the design and implementation of the IRMs throughout the project area to address PCB-impacted soils and sediment within the downstream drainage area/floodplain.

Key projects include the following:

  • Completed the remedial design and construction management for removal and lining of 2 miles of PCB-impacted ditch within a railroad right-of-way to comply with the USEPA consent order. The design included selective excavation, regrading and shaping, lining with geosynthetic material and shotcrete
  • Completed remedial design and construction management services to contain and cover portions of the site located within the 100-year floodplain of an adjacent creek. Designs include the multi-layer asphalt parking area and tennis courts and the Best Management Plan for the construction of the soil cap
  • Providing construction management/CQA services for PCB soil excavation and landfill cap construction related to soils generated from the expansion of the local POTW
  • Prepared and implemented the Removal Action Sampling Plan for the PCB and metals investigation of a drainage Ditch
  • Prepared IRM reports for multiple PCB removal and/or containment measures

Roux Associates continues to provide innovative and effective construction solutions to the challenges presented by each phase of this diverse project.
