Roux Associates performed the RI, and soil/groundwater portions of the FS at a polyvinyl chloride manufacturing facility on behalf of a major chemical corporation. Over 100 wells were installed and sampled to fully map the extent of the plume. An electrical resistivity survey of a four square mile area was conducted to determine the continuity of a clay aquitard beneath the plume. This work was instrumental in convincing the USEPA that investigation of deeper aquifers was unnecessary. Three dimensional groundwater flow patterns were determined as part of the study.

An RI/FS report was submitted to the USEPA Region III, CERCLA Branch and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. The remedy favored in the FS was plume containment by pumping from twelve interceptor wells and groundwater treatment via an air stripper. The USEPA accepted the RI/FS and issued a ROD selecting the remedy favored in the FS. Roux Associates designed, installed and operated a groundwater intercept system in response to the USEPA-selected remedy. Monitoring data indicate that the large, complex plume is successfully contained and is rapidly shrinking in overall size with levels of contaminants within the plume substantially reduced.
